Editorial standards

How we source information

We prefer the operator's official website, official ticket calendar, visitor FAQ, and published accessibility guidance. Government, museum, tourism, and venue sources are used when they are the primary authority for an address, collection, public facility, or local destination. Secondary sources may help identify a lead, but they do not replace a primary source for volatile visitor facts.

Prices, schedules, locomotive assignments, seasonal hours, and event availability can change after a page is checked. We link visitors to the official source and avoid presenting changing details as guarantees.

How priority guides are reviewed

1. Confirm the organization's identity, location, public visitor offering, and current operating signals.
2. Check visitor details against official pages, ticket calendars, and other primary or authoritative sources.
3. Separate current facts from history, reconcile conflicting sources, and omit or qualify details that remain unresolved.
4. Verify that editorial media has a documented ownership, permission, or license basis.
5. Review the page's links, presentation, structured data, and release evidence before treating it as outreach-ready.

These are review requirements, not a claim that every directory record has completed the process. Search results, automated comparisons, and third-party reviews can identify leads, but they are not primary factual evidence.

What our status labels mean

• Source checked means our editor reviewed the cited sources on the date shown. It does not mean the operator approved the page.
• Operator confirmed means an authorized operator representative reviewed or supplied the identified information. It is not a guarantee that every changing fact will remain current indefinitely.
• Claimed listing means USA Train Rides recorded an authorized listing relationship after claim review. A claim alone does not make the page operator-confirmed.
• Sponsored identifies a paid commercial relationship. Sponsorship is separate from sourcing, claim status, and operator confirmation.
• Needs verification means the listing remains useful for discovery but has not completed our full priority-operator review.

What directory counts mean

Homepage and state totals count active U.S. directory listings. Depending on the location, those records can include ride operators, rail museums, trolleys, inclines, and related rail attractions. They are not presented as counts of operator-confirmed businesses, and they should not be compared directly with the separate Gold or operator-confirmation scoreboards.

Corrections and claims

If a name, address, schedule, accessibility statement, image credit, or other fact is wrong, send the page URL and supporting source through our correction process. You may also email ageorge@usatrainrides.com. We review material visitor-safety and trip-planning corrections before routine enhancements.

Corrections, new-listing requests, and claims are free. A claim request begins an authorization review; it does not immediately change public status, buy placement, or confirm every fact on the page.

Images and rights

Editorial images must be owned by USA Train Rides, supplied with permission, or published under a license that allows our use. Where required, the page shows the creator, source, and license. We do not treat an image found online as permission to republish it. Rights concerns can be reported through the same correction channel for review or removal.

Commercial separation

Free listings, corrections, and claims do not buy placement. Sponsored placement is not currently for sale. Before any paid placement is introduced, USA Train Rides will publish the available placements, audience definitions, disclosure rules, measurement terms, and inquiry process. Any sponsored result will be labeled and cannot change factual content, source-check status, operator-confirmation status, visitor-safety handling, or the priority given to train-trip relevance.

Some lodging, activity, transportation, and shopping links are affiliate links. They are disclosed, may earn USA Train Rides a commission at no extra cost to the visitor, and do not replace direct operator ticket links or determine editorial conclusions.

Automation and review

Automated tools can assist with discovery, comparison, and change detection. They are not treated as a factual source. Priority operator and local-place pages require source evidence, a documented review, image-rights checks, and release validation before they are considered outreach-ready.
