About Dallas Museum of Art

Dallas Museum of Art is an encyclopedic museum in the Dallas Arts District with more than 25,000 works available through its digitized collection. Collection areas include African, Asian, European, Indigenous American, Latin American, Islamic, Oceanic, decorative, U.S. and Canadian, and postwar and contemporary art.

The institution began as the Dallas Art Association in 1903. It opened its current Edward Larrabee Barnes-designed downtown building in 1984 and later expanded with the Nancy and Jake L. Hamon Building. The collection and exhibition history connect local civic investment with art across cultures and time.

General admission is free, but every visitor still needs a ticket. The museum encourages advance reservations and also issues tickets at Guest Services. Special exhibitions can have separate admission. Current public hours are Wednesday-Sunday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; it is closed Monday, Tuesday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

All public galleries, entrances, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. A limited number of wheelchairs are available first-come at the north Main Entrance, accessible garage spaces are on P1-P3, service animals are welcome, and accommodations for programs should be requested two to three weeks ahead.
