About Drake Well Museum & Park
Drake Well Museum and Park preserves the site where Edwin Drake’s crew successfully drilled for oil on August 27, 1859, helping launch the modern petroleum industry.
A roughly 10,000-square-foot indoor gallery, orientation film, historic objects, and interpretive exhibits connect the well with the technology, labor, wealth, environmental change, and communities of the Oil Region.
Outside, visitors encounter the replica derrick and engine house, historic buildings, oil-field machinery, and a landscape adjacent to the active excursion railroad. Outdoor exhibit availability can change with maintenance and weather.

The museum is roughly two miles from Perry Street Station and directly tied to both the railroad’s narrated oil-boom story and the valley it travels. The train has a Drake Well platform for certain one-way and group movements, but ordinary round trips still board at Perry Street.
