About Gaithersburg Community Museum

The Gaithersburg Community Museum occupies the historic B&O rail complex in Olde Towne. Indoor exhibits fill the 1884 freight house, while History Park and an outdoor rolling-stock collection preserve a 1918 steam locomotive, a 1953 Rail Diesel Car and a C&O/Chessie caboose.

Visitors can enter the RDC and caboose when open, and children have a play area inside the caboose. MARC, Amtrak and CSX movements can pass the adjacent active line, so all trackside safety boundaries matter.

The restored 1884 passenger station next door remains a working MARC stop and is distinct from the city museum entrance at 9 South Summit Avenue. Admission to the museum is always free.
