About Historic Palm Cottage
Historic Palm Cottage is a 3,500-square-foot house museum built in 1895 and operated by Naples Historical Society. The Society describes it as Naples' oldest house and interprets its tabby construction, furnishings, tools, and role in the development of the early city.
A standard house visit may be docent-led or self-guided and includes the Norris Gardens, a 24-minute Naples-history film, and access to the Smith Exhibit Hall. The Society asks visitors using the final tour time to arrive earlier for the garden and exhibit hall because the cottage closes promptly.
This is a seasonal complement, not a walk-in certainty. The official 2026 tour page says the cottage is closed July 14 through November 14. Interior photography and filming are prohibited, so this guide's gallery intentionally uses only licensed exterior photographs.
What stands out
Read the 1895 house itself
Tabby walls, historic construction, and surviving rooms turn early Naples into a physical place rather than an abstract timeline.
Add the garden and film
The Norris Gardens and Naples-history film broaden a cottage ticket beyond a quick interior walkthrough.
Keep the two tours distinct
The house tour and the Society's 90-minute historic-district walking tour are separate products with different timing and reservation rules.
Pair it with the train
Why it belongs in a Naples Lionel Train Museum at Naples Depot trip
The cottage is about a mile from the depot and helps explain the city that rail access transformed. Pair it only after checking both seasonal calendars: the train museum is closed in summer, Palm Cottage currently reopens in mid-November, and each venue needs its own time and contact plan.
