About Mount Washington Observatory Weather Station Tours
Mount Washington Observatory operates a working weather station at the summit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Its reserved Weather Station Tours go beyond the public Extreme Mount Washington museum to meet the summit team and examine the instruments and forecasting work behind the mountain’s famous weather record.
Summer 2026 tours are typically offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., with no tours on Wednesdays. Staffing, weather, and the state visitor center’s operating status control actual availability, so a reservation must be made from the live schedule at least 60 minutes in advance.
The Observatory specifically instructs Cog passengers to book a train departing one hour before the tour. Transportation and the tour are separate purchases. A tour reservation does not include a Cog ticket or guarantee the mountain railway will reach the summit in severe conditions.
