About Osceola Landing

Osceola Landing is a National Park Service day-use and river-access area just west of the Highway 243 bridge on the Minnesota side of the St. Croix River, across from Osceola, Wisconsin. Its mapped center is about 0.3 mile straight-line from Osceola Depot, but river and road geometry require a separate vehicle route. NPS began a major rehabilitation in late 2021 and completed it in July 2023.

The project separated motorized and nonmotorized launch areas, improved pedestrian and vehicle safety, added wayfinding, reorganized parking, addressed erosion and hazardous trees, and upgraded the plaza, exhibits, shuttle waiting area and comfort station. Day-use activities include walking, fishing and picnicking. The picnic area provides shelters, water, toilets, grills and an accessible fishing pier; the exact availability of water and facilities can still vary by season or condition.

Roadways and parking lots are open sunrise to sunset, but the NPS compendium says high water and winter conditions can close the gate until safe. Federal Riverway facilities do not charge an entrance fee. Osprey and Blue Heron shelters can accommodate groups up to 50 and require a free reservation through the St. Croix River Visitor Center for reserved use. Alcohol and glass are prohibited in the picnic area, visitors must pack out trash, and paddlers should use current NPS river maps, alerts and personal-flotation rules rather than treating the landing as an uncomplicated scenic overlook.
