About Providence Metropark Canal Experience
Providence Metropark protects a Maumee River and Miami and Erie Canal landscape near Grand Rapids. Its Canal Experience centers on The Volunteer, a mule-drawn reproduction canal boat, and the Isaac Ludwig Mill, where water power supports sawmill and gristmill interpretation. Lock 44, the original towpath, Providence Dam, and costumed interpretation connect the pieces.
The current 2026 attraction season runs May 1 through October 26, with operating days and departure times changing by month. August boat trips run Wednesday through Sunday; September changes to Thursday through Sunday; October divides weekday and weekend schedules. The official page pairs each month with separate mill hours, so a park visit does not automatically prove the boat or mill is operating.
The Canal Experience ticket area and parking are at 13205 S. River Road. General park entry is free, while the boat-and-mill experience has admission. Adult, senior, and child fares are published, with a limited local-resident or member adult discount. Pets are not allowed on the boat.
Providence Metropark and TLE&W are independent organizations. The checked road route between the motorcar pin and Canal Experience is about 688 meters, but tickets, schedules, weather calls, access statements, parking, and operating decisions remain separate.

Pair it with the train
Why it belongs in a Toledo, Lake Erie & Western Railway and Museum trip
The checked road route from the TLE&W Front Street motorcar pin to the Canal Experience is about 688 meters (0.4 mile) and one minute before traffic, parking, and ticketing. Protect any fixed boat departure, verify the motorcar's weather-permitting operation separately, and do not treat either admission as valid at the other attraction.

The official season is May 1 through October 26, with different operating days, boat departures, and mill hours in August, September, and October.
How much is admission?
Published admission is $12 adult, $8 senior age 60+, and $6 child age 3-12. An adult discount applies to Lucas County residents or Metroparks members under the posted limits.
Is park entry free?
General Providence Metropark admission is free, but the Canal Experience boat-and-mill attraction has a fee.
Where do I park?
Use the attraction parking and ticket area at 13205 S. River Road rather than assuming the TLE&W motorcar boarding point serves both.
Can pets ride the canal boat?
No. The current Canal Experience page says pets are not allowed on the boat.
Is the boat wheelchair-accessible?
The general Metroparks policy offers adaptation requests with 72 business hours' notice for registered programs, but it does not guarantee the boat or mill route. Contact Metroparks for the specific visit.
