About Sagamore Hill National Historic Site

Sagamore Hill was Theodore Roosevelt's home from 1885 until his death in 1919 and served as the Summer White House during his presidency. The 83-acre National Historic Site combines the preserved Roosevelt home with the Old Orchard Museum and Visitor Center, outdoor grounds, a nature trail, beach access, picnic areas, and self-guided interpretation.

The house is not a walk-in museum. Interior access is by an approximately 45-minute guided tour reserved in advance through Recreation.gov, and late arrivals are not admitted. Visitors without a house ticket can still explore the grounds at no charge, use the NPS app audio tour, and visit Old Orchard during its posted Thursday–Sunday schedule.

Accessibility differs by location. The Old Orchard Museum and Visitor Center is accessible from the rear, accessible parking is provided, and a limited number of wheelchairs can be borrowed. The Roosevelt Home is physically accessible on the first floor only; closed-captioned and virtual alternatives cover upper floors. Contact the park at least three days ahead for requested ASL services.
