San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum is an independent nonprofit educational museum preserving California Central Coast railroad history. It occupies the former Southern Pacific freight house built in 1894 when the railroad's extension reached San Luis Obispo, and it combines the restored building with outdoor display track, full-size equipment and indoor interpretation.

The museum's subjects include the historical Pacific Coast Railway, Southern Pacific, Santa Maria Valley Railroad, Amtrak, signaling and maintenance-of-way work. That makes it especially useful after Pacific Coast Railroad: visitors can distinguish the 19th- and 20th-century narrow-gauge Pacific Coast Railway from the modern private ranch line founded in 2000.
