About The Broad

The Broad is a contemporary-art museum founded by Eli and Edythe Broad and opened on Grand Avenue in 2015. The museum says its collection contains more than 2,000 works by nearly 200 artists, focused on art from the 1950s to the present. General admission is free, but that does not mean entry is frictionless: advance timed tickets are recommended, walk-ups are available daily, and some exhibitions or events carry separate charges.

The 120,000-square-foot building was designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler. Its “veil and vault” concept surrounds two floors of public gallery space with a porous outer shell and makes collection storage visible within the visitor path. Architecture is therefore part of the visit, not merely a container for named artworks that may or may not be on view.

Current hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; Thursday 11 a.m.–8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; closed Monday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The museum’s expansion project currently changes access: its visit page directs parking traffic from Grand Avenue to the 2nd Street garage entrance and warns about intermittent construction noise. Pedestrian routes can change, so follow current signs from Angels Flight’s upper station.

All galleries and facilities are wheelchair accessible. The museum loans a limited number of wheelchairs first come, first served, offers accessible garage spaces, sensory kits, a quiet room, large-print notes, transcripts, and visual-description or ASL tours by advance request. Service dogs are admitted in public areas; emotional-support animals are not.
