About Vasona Lake County Park

Vasona Lake County Park and the connecting Los Gatos Creek Parkway cover 152 acres. The Billy Jones train crosses from Oak Meadow and makes its loop within the park, but Vasona is a separate Santa Clara County destination with its own entrance, hours, parking fee, rules, reservations, closures, and contact channels.

The park is open year-round from 8 a.m. until sunset. Vehicle entry fees are collected throughout the year; current County program pages state $6, but the entrance kiosk controls. Parking is first come, first served, and a reserved picnic area does not reserve parking. Families can use first-come tables, while groups larger than 20 should reserve through County Parks.

The park offers 45 acres of lawn, picnic areas, fishing, a playground, and the paved Los Gatos Creek Trail. Seasonal paddle and rowboat rentals are operated through Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation, not by County Parks or the railroad. Personal vessels are not allowed at Vasona, and swimming is prohibited in County park waters.

The current County closure page reports a Los Gatos Creek Trail detour between the fishing dock area and the Circle Group Area because of a failed culvert; follow signs and recheck before travel. An accessible route leads from parking to the ADA-accessible boat dock and kayak self-launch, but the Vasona playground is not yet barrier-free. Contact the County ADA coordinator about a specific activity.
