About Wayne County Historical Society
Wayne County Historical Society is a volunteer-led museum campus at 546 E. Bowman Street in Wooster. Its eight buildings include the Beall-Stibbs homestead, an 1873 one-room schoolhouse, a mid-19th-century general store, a dress shop, a replica historic firehouse, the Kister Building, and connected permanent-collection spaces.
The society was founded in 1904 and moved to the Beall House property in 1954. Buildings were moved or added over time, and connected basement spaces opened much more of the permanent collection to visitors. Agriculture, household life, art, military history, industry, transportation, textiles, communication, and county landmarks appear across the campus.
The 2026 public-tour season runs March through December on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., with the final tour leaving at 2:30. The society recommends calling ahead because a special event can change the normal plan. Wednesday and Friday office hours are not a substitute for the Saturday museum tour schedule.
Wayne County Historical Society and Orrville Railroad Heritage Society are separate nonprofits. Neither ticket, membership, schedule, or accessibility statement transfers to the other site. The same-day plan works only when the selected ORHS departure leaves enough time for the museum's narrow Saturday tour window.

Pair it with the train
Why it belongs in an Orrville Railroad Heritage Society trip
The checked road route from the ORHS rail yard to Wayne County Historical Society is approximately 17.3 kilometers (10.8 miles) and 19 minutes. Protect the train departure first, allow time to leave the gravel rail-yard lot and park in Wooster, and call the museum before travel when a special event, renovation, mobility need, or admission detail could control the visit.

Useful answers
Frequently asked questions
When are public tours available in 2026?
The public season runs March through December. Tours are available Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., with the last tour leaving at 2:30 p.m.
Should I call before visiting?
Yes. The museum recommends calling ahead because special events can change the ordinary Saturday plan. This is especially important when pairing the museum with a fixed train departure.
How much is admission?
The current public-tour page does not state a general nonmember price. Confirm the current charge directly instead of using an older membership form or event price.
Is the museum wheelchair-accessible?
The Permanent Collection area and a public restroom are described as accessible. Historic buildings and the Beall House renovation can create different limits, so call for the exact tour route.
What is on the campus?
The eight-building campus includes the Beall-Stibbs homestead, schoolhouse, general store, dress shop, replica firehouse, Kister Building, and connected permanent-collection galleries.
Is this part of ORHS?
No. Wayne County Historical Society is an independent nonprofit museum in Wooster. Its admission, hours, and access do not transfer from an ORHS ticket.
How far is it from the ORHS rail yard?
The checked driving route is about 10.8 miles and 19 minutes before traffic, parking, and admission time.
