About Bonanzaville Pioneer Village

Museum and Pioneer Village that meets the Prairie Past bringing History to Life.

History

Bonanzaville, USA is the history museum complex of the Cass County Historical Society in West Fargo, North Dakota — forty buildings gathered on 12 acres just off Interstate 94, about two and a half miles west of Fargo. Many of the structures are historic buildings from the region, relocated to the grounds to form a village setting with themed displays that include a prairie church, a general store, a drug store, a fire station, a schoolhouse, and Fargo's first house, alongside newer purpose-built museums for aircraft and automobiles. The collections run to several hundred thousand artifacts, from horse-drawn and firefighting vehicles to a telephone museum created in a donated Tower City hardware store by the US WEST Telephone Pioneers. The complex is open May through September, with event venues operating year-round, and its signature gathering — Pioneer Days, held the third weekend of August — is the largest and longest-running annual event in the Fargo–Moorhead area.

Nearby

West Fargo, Fargo's western neighbor in Cass County, North Dakota, is the state's fifth-most-populous city and one of its fastest growing, home to roughly 41,000 people. It began as a Northern Pacific Railway whistle stop called Sheyenne Crossing, named for the nearby river, then grew into a meatpacking town until the Armour plant closed in 1960. Annual events include the Red River Valley Fair and the Big Iron Farm Show at the fairgrounds, and the park district maintains thirty parks and bike paths.
