About Connecticut Antique Machinery Association

Riding the 3‑foot (0.91 m) narrow‑gauge line on the museum grounds offers a glimpse of early industrial transport, as an authentic steam locomotive imported from Hawaii circles the 14‑acre Kent, Connecticut site. The museum showcases historic machinery, including internal‑combustion engines, steam power, agricultural tools and logging equipment, all set amid restored buildings that illustrate the region’s engineering heritage. Visitors explore a living collection that preserves and demonstrates the technology of past centuries.

History

The Connecticut Antique Machinery Association originates from a local hobbyist group that formally organized in 1984. The following year, the association opened its doors to the public in September 1985 on a 14‑acre site in Kent, Connecticut.

The Trains

The museum’s grounds include a 3‑foot (0.91 m) narrow‑gauge railroad that runs on a short track loop. An operating steam locomotive, originally built for service in Hawaii, provides motive power for the line.
