About End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum
Historic Murray County railroad park preserving a 1901 working turntable, depot, section house, and rolling stock; static museum with seasonal events, no scheduled passenger rides.
History
End-O-Line Railroad Park sits on the northern edge of Currie, a Murray County town founded in 1872 by Neil and Archibald Currie, and preserves the railroad landscape left at the end of the line: a working turntable from 1901, the depot, a section house, and rolling stock, operated as a static museum with seasonal events rather than scheduled passenger rides. The section house, a saltbox built by the Chicago and North Western in Comfrey for a section foreman and his family, was moved to the park and restored to its early-1900s style, while the one-room Sunrise School (District Number One) was relocated here and restored by the Murray County Historical Society. Inside, an HO-scale model railroad reproduces the Currie railroad yards as they appeared around the turn of the twentieth century, complete with scratch-built locomotives, a wraparound mural, and steam-era sound effects — telling the story of how railroads drove the settlement of the West and of this corner of southwestern Minnesota.
Nearby
Currie is a small city in northeastern Murray County in southwestern Minnesota, where the Des Moines River begins a mile northwest of town at the outlet of Lake Shetek. The lake — and Lake Shetek State Park just north of Currie — make the area a popular summer vacation spot, with a seven-mile bike trail winding through the park, along the lake, and past local farmland. Slayton, the county seat, lies about ten miles away by highway.
