About Minnesota Streetcar Museum
Riding the Minnesota Streetcar Museum’s heritage lines offers a glimpse of transit. The Como‑Harriet Line follows more than a mile of the original Twin City Rapid Transit right‑of‑way between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska, using three restored TCRT cars and a replica 1900 station at Queen Avenue and 42nd Street. The Excelsior Line runs on a former Minneapolis and Saint Louis Railway corridor near Lake Minnetonka, operated by Duluth Street Railway No.

History
The Minnesota Transportation Museum was founded in 1962 to restore Twin City Rapid Transit Company No. 1300, the last streetcar that had run before the system’s abandonment in 1954. In 1971 the museum launched operations on the Como‑Harriet Streetcar Line, a heritage route that follows the original TCRT right‑of‑way between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska. A second heritage line opened in Excelsior in 1999, using Duluth Street Railway Company No. 78 transferred from the Como‑Harriet operation. During the winter of 2004–2005 the Minnesota Transportation Museum was restructured; the Minnesota Streetcar Museum was created as an independent entity and assumed ownership and operating responsibilities for both streetcar lines, while the Museum of Lake Minnetonka was formed to manage the restored Steamboat Minnehaha. The Minnesota Streetcar Museum formally records its inception in 2005.
The Trains
The museum operates six functional streetcars, including Twin City Rapid Transit Company No. 1300, No. 1239, and No. 1791 (originally built as TCRT 1791 and later sold to Duluth), Duluth Street Railway Company No. 78 (built by LaClede Car Company in 1893) and No. 265, plus a Fargo‑Moorhead Birney car and a high‑speed Mesaba Railway interurban car. The Como‑Harriet Streetcar Line runs a little over one mile along the former TCRT right‑of‑way between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska, while the Excelsior Streetcar Line, opened in 1999, follows the former Minneapolis and Saint Louis Railway corridor near Lake Minnetonka, using the former railbed now maintained as a bicycle trail.
