About O. Winston Link Museum
Inside the restored 1905 Norfolk & Western passenger station in downtown Roanoke, Virginia, visitors encounter the O. Winston Link Museum’s extensive collection of dramatic 1950s steam‑locomotive photographs, illuminated by the same flash‑bulb techniques Link employed. Interactive audio displays explain the subjects and equipment shown, while the building itself reflects Raymond Loewy’s 1949 renovation.

History
See full history
The O. Winston Link Museum opens its doors in January 2004, establishing a dedicated venue for the photographer’s 1950s Norfolk & Western steam‑locomotive images. The museum occupies a former Norfolk & Western Railway passenger station that was originally constructed in 1905 and received a 1949 renovation by industrial designer Raymond Loewy. The station forms one of three contributing structures to the Norfolk and Western Railway Company Historic District, which gains National Register of Historic Places status in 1999. Operation of the museum is undertaken by the Historical Society of Western Virginia, which manages the static exhibit without offering rail rides.
