The Old Hickory Railroad is a narrow-gauge tourist railway in Jackson, Louisiana, built to commemorate the Clinton and Port Hudson Railroad, an early Louisiana line that later became part of the Louisville, New Orleans and Texas Railway — the Memphis–New Orleans system constructed between 1888 and 1890 and folded into the Illinois Central in 1892. Its home town carries deep history of its own: Jackson was founded in 1815 as the seat of justice for Feliciana Parish, grew into a commercial and educational center nicknamed the 'Athens of the South,' and reportedly took its name from General Andrew Jackson — 'Old Hickory' himself — who is said to have camped there with his troops returning north after the 1815 Battle of New Orleans.
