About Pennsylvania Lumber Museum

Visitors explore the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum’s grounds near Galeton in Potter County, wandering among replica logging structures and authentic locomotives that illustrate the late‑1800s timber boom. The site features a historic cabin relocated after forester Bob Webber’s 2015 death, plus a visitor center offering guided tours, educational workshops, and an annual fall festival. Recognized with the 2016 American Association of State and Local History Award of Merit, the museum highlights the region’s logging heritage.

History

The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum originates from a state‑backed effort that began sporadically in the late 1960s, when Pennsylvania allocated assistance to develop a site that would interpret the region’s historic lumber industry. The museum’s visitor center and replica structures open to the public after that development, and the grounds later incorporate the rustic cabin of longtime forester Bob Webber, which is moved intact to the site shortly after Webber’s death in 2015. In 2016 the museum receives the Award of Merit from the American Association of State and Local History, and in 2025 it is named one of the twelve best museums in Pennsylvania.
