About Dacotah Prairie Museum
Dacotah Prairie Museum is Brown County's local-history museum in the historic Western Union Building at 21 S Main Street. The collection covers regional life through changing exhibits, and the museum says only about 10 percent is displayed at any one time.
Admission is free and donations are appreciated. Current hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; it is closed Sunday, Monday and major holidays.
The museum publishes a ramp to the main floor, an elevator to the second floor, fully accessible restrooms and a wheelchair available for visitors. These are museum-level facts, not evidence about Storybook Land train boarding.
The institution was established in 1969, moved into the current building in 1970 and occupied the whole building by 1980. The structure was built in 1888–1889 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
