The Richard E. Oetken Heritage Museums are two non-climate-controlled museum buildings on the Old Threshers grounds, interpreting traction steam, agriculture, regional technology, dolls, models, and local history.

The Heritage Museums are part of the Midwest Old Threshers campus at McMillan Park. Museum A focuses on traction steam engines, tractors, agricultural machinery, the Bussey Doll Collection, and related exhibits; Museum B adds changing collections and regional material.

The current operator page describes a roughly 4,000-square-foot traction-steam exhibit containing three full-size engines, a grain separator, models, photographs, and supporting interpretation. That indoor collection complements the operating machinery and rail activity seen during the Reunion without promising that every artifact operates.

The buildings use a seasonal calendar. The published 2026 summer schedule runs daily from May 26 through August 16, then a fall-through-spring schedule begins September 14. During the September Reunion, the operator publishes separate building hours instead of the ordinary museum timetable.

The museums are not climate-controlled. Visitors sensitive to heat, cold, noise, dust, walking, or long periods on concrete should ask the Association for current conditions and the simplest route before arrival.

It is the closest substantial interpretation stop: visitors can connect the electric trolley to the campus’s traction engines, farming technology, dual-gauge railroad access, and broader preservation mission.

Are the Heritage Museums included with a Midwest Electric trolley ticket?

Do not assume so. The ordinary museum, Reunion gate, trolley, and Midwest Central train use different admission or fare structures.

Are the museums open during the Reunion?

Yes. The current Reunion page publishes 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Thursday–Sunday and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Monday for Heritage Museums A and B.

Are the buildings climate-controlled?

No. Midwest Old Threshers explicitly says the museums are not climate-controlled.

What does admission cost outside the Reunion?
