About Theatre Museum of Repertoire Americana

Midwest Old Threshers created the museum in 1973 from a collection assembled by performers Neil and Caroline Schaffner, then expanded it through additional donations and research. Its subject is the traveling repertory theatre that brought rotating plays and popular entertainment to American communities from the mid-nineteenth century into the twentieth.

The collection includes scripts, posters, painted stage drops, costumes, photographs, musical scores, business records, and a research library. It is a focused cultural-history stop, not a generic performing-arts venue and not a promise of a live show on an ordinary museum day.

The current Old Threshers page publishes Memorial Day through Labor Day hours only on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with a midday closure. Other visits are available by appointment, making advance contact important when planning around a train or trolley time.
