About Roseburg National Cemetery
Roseburg National Cemetery was established in 1897 to serve the Oregon State Soldiers' Home. The federal government assumed the home and cemetery in 1933, and the cemetery entered the National Cemetery System in September 1973. Its POW Memorial and formal headstone landscape support a short, reflective history stop rather than a conventional entertainment visit.
The historic cemetery visitor address is 1770 West Harvard Avenue. The newer Roseburg National Cemetery Annex and administrative office use 913 Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard. The historic cemetery is closed to new interments while the Annex remains open; visitors should not substitute one address for the other.
Historic grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset. The current office at the Annex is generally open Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and closed on federal holidays except Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Those office hours are not the same as the historic grounds' visitation hours.
The official map places a parking lot on the north side of Harvard Avenue, but the reviewed federal pages do not publish a complete accessible-space, restroom, surface or route inventory for the historic grounds. Call ahead when a specific feature matters, observe posted federal rules and treat active services, visitors and memorials with respect.
What stands out
Trace the 1897 founding
The cemetery began with the Oregon State Soldiers' Home and later became part of the national system.
Visit the POW Memorial
The memorial is a focal point for understanding service and remembrance at the site.
Read the memorial landscape
Formal headstone rows and mature plantings create a compact place for respectful observation.
Keep two cemetery locations distinct
The historic Harvard Avenue grounds and the Garden Valley Annex have different visitor and administrative roles.
Pair it with the train
Why it belongs in a Safari Village Train Ride trip
The cemetery is the nearer of the two promoted stops and serves a quieter historical and memorial purpose than Stewart Park's broader family recreation. Budget about 25 minutes from Wildlife Safari, visit only during daylight and keep the historic Harvard Avenue grounds distinct from the Annex office.
