The place

About Stewart Park

Stewart Park is the largest of Roseburg's city parks, covering about 236 acres along the South Umpqua River. Its mix of Umpqua River Trail segments, open space, playgrounds, sports areas and picnic facilities makes it a flexible decompression stop after the more structured Wildlife Safari experience.

The city lists a nine-hole golf course, tennis and pickleball courts, skate park, baseball and softball fields, sand volleyball, horseshoes, a band shell, butterfly garden, two pavilions and playgrounds. Fir Grove, within the park complex, adds soccer fields, a splash pad, playground and pavilion. Riverfront Park's disc-golf course is adjacent but outside Stewart Park and should be planned separately.

City park hours run from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset. Dogs must be leashed except in Happy Tails Dog Park and are not allowed at special events. Alcohol is prohibited, and the park system is smoke-, tobacco- and vape-free except at the golf course.

General use does not require a reservation, but reservable facilities and rates vary; call Roseburg Parks for the exact pavilion, field or event plan. The city does not publish a complete current accessible-parking, restroom, surface or route inventory for Stewart Park, so contact staff when a specific feature determines the visit. Current master-plan work is planning context rather than a closure notice.

What stands out

Follow the South Umpqua River

Use park and river-trail segments for a flexible walk while respecting current conditions.

Choose a family play stop

Playgrounds, the Fir Grove splash pad and open space support different ages and energy levels.

Add a sports activity

Courts, fields, skate space, sand volleyball and golf broaden the stop beyond a simple picnic.

Use a reservable gathering space

Two pavilions and other facilities can support planned groups when current reservations and rates are confirmed.

Pair it with the train

Why it belongs in a Safari Village Train Ride trip

Stewart Park offers flexible, free-form family recreation after Wildlife Safari without duplicating the animal attraction. Budget about 27 minutes for the drive and choose a daylight activity that matches the group's energy, weather and mobility needs.
