Sacramento History Museum

The Sacramento History Museum sits at 101 I Street in the Old Sacramento Waterfront, two buildings from the California State Railroad Museum. Its exhibits follow Sacramento from Native Californian roots through immigration, the Gold Rush, agriculture, industry, media, and the cultures shaping the city today. The building replicates the 1854 City Hall and Waterworks structure, so the stop adds local civic context to the railroad museum’s wider California-and-West story.

The museum currently publishes daily hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with final admission at 4:30 p.m. Standard admission is $12 for adults, $6 for ages 6–17, and free for children five and younger. Discounts and free-admission programs have eligibility requirements; show the requested card or identification and confirm any special event before relying on a reduced price.

Old Sacramento Underground Tours are a separate one-hour product, not included automatically with museum admission. The current public tour is $30 for adults, $25 for ages 6–17, and free for children five and younger when included in the order. Tours begin at the museum, depart on time, run rain or shine, and enter uneven underground spaces created when Sacramento raised streets and buildings to reduce flood risk.

The museum publishes elevator access and accessible aisle widths wherever possible, with additional help available from staff. That statement should not be generalized to every Underground Tour surface or route. Call the front desk about a mobility, sensory, or program-specific need before purchasing a tour. Only trained service animals are admitted inside.
