California State Railroad Museum is both a major railroad-history museum and the home base for a substantive public ride on the Sacramento Southern Railroad. The museum’s main visitor entrance is at 111 I Street in Old Sacramento, while excursion passengers pick up tickets and board at the separate Central Pacific Passenger Station at 930 Front Street. Museum admission and train tickets are separate products. The main museum publishes daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m. hours, final admission at 4:30 p.m., and standard admission of $12 adult and $6 youth ages 6–17, with children five and younger free. The seasonal train follows the Sacramento River on a six-mile round trip that is generally described as about 45 minutes; a current first-class page describes about 50 minutes, so visitors should allow roughly 45–50 minutes plus check-in and loading. Remaining regular 2026 service is Fridays through Labor Day and weekends through October 11, with five published departure times on weekends and three on Fridays. Coach and first-class prices, car availability, weather, special events, and equipment assignments remain controlled by the official ticket system. The museum is broadly accessible, but some historic exhibit cars use narrow stairs and doorways. The excursion coaches are more restrictive: wheelchairs, mobility devices, and strollers cannot be taken aboard, and temporary storage is available at the station.
