About Tri-State Model Railroaders at Mineral Bluff Depot

Tri-State Model Railroaders is an independent Georgia nonprofit based in the historic Mineral Bluff railroad depot. Its museum-quality HO layout represents the Louisville & Nashville Old Line from Atlanta to Etowah, Tennessee, plus the branch through Blue Ridge and Mineral Bluff to Murphy, North Carolina, around 1950.

The club's own visitor guide identifies the 1887 depot as the oldest public building and one of the oldest structures in Fannin County. The two-level layout occupies about 22 by 37 feet, uses roughly 200 feet of main line, and includes a helix inspired by the Hiwassee Loop. Those details make the visit unusually useful after seeing the real Toccoa corridor from Blue Ridge.

Public access is event-based rather than daily. The remaining published 2026 windows are a free August 22 layout open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Ride the Rails on October 24–25 with doors at 11 a.m. and hourly motorcar trips from noon through 3 p.m., and a free Piedmont Pilgrimage opening on November 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The October event adds a five-mile round trip by railroad motorcar over the Toccoa River bridge to Murphy Junction, an authentic handcar, and a miniature 7½-inch-gauge handcar for children. The public pages do not specify step-free entry, restroom access, model-layout sightlines, or motorcar boarding support, so call or email before travel for any feature-specific need.
