About Blue Ridge Railway
Blue Ridge Railway is the current public brand for the excursion historically known as Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and represented by this canonical operator slug. Trains leave the historic downtown Blue Ridge depot for a 26-mile round trip along the Toccoa River toward the adjoining towns of McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee. The 2-hour Express makes the out-and-back journey without a layover; the 4-hour Extended trip includes about two hours off the train in the two state-line towns. Seasonal scenic service continues into February 2027, while the same operator also sells an October Trick or Treat trip, one-hour holiday rides, and motor-assisted four-person rail bikes. The current ticket page identifies open-air coaches 2929, 2975, and 114; enclosed coaches 106, 332, 2705, and 549; accessible open-air coach 405; and adult-only Premier coach 105. Open-air cars use large openings and add vinyl windows in winter, while enclosed cars provide climate control. Premier amenities and age-18-plus restrictions vary by product and are fullest on the 4-hour trip. The operator publishes no durable current locomotive assignment, so historic photographs and older equipment numbers must not become a promise about the power or consist on a selected departure.

Railroad track reached Blue Ridge and helped shape the North Georgia mountain town.

Railroad track reached Blue Ridge in 1886, and the Louisville & Nashville depot that anchors the present trip was built in 1905. Regular passenger service ended in 1951 and freight service ended in 1987. Local citizens began restoration work in 1990, and the modern excursion opened to McCaysville in 1998. Patriot Rail acquired the operation in 2015. The present experience continues to use the historic corridor between downtown Blue Ridge and the Georgia–Tennessee state line while presenting several trip lengths and seasonal products under the Blue Ridge Railway brand.
