History

See full history

The Railway Museum of Greater Cincinnati is founded in 1975 when a club of local railroad enthusiasts organizes to run passenger cars on Amtrak trains. After several members purchase cars for that purpose, Amtrak tightens its passenger‑car restrictions in the late 1980s, ending the excursions but leaving the equipment as the core of the museum’s collection. At that point the organization shifts its mission to preservation, focusing on the equipment that once served the seven railroads that entered Cincinnati.

Around the Depot

The Railway Museum of Greater Cincinnati is about 5 mi from Cincinnati Union Terminal, with EnterTRAINment Junction roughly 22 mi out for a fuller Ohio rail day.
