Roundhouse Road crossing
Last updated: 7/3/2026, 4:45:54 PM · Official source / subject to change
Brief whistle-stop earlier in the day before Altoona arrival. Approximate location. En route, No. 4014 passes through Huntingdon and Tyrone on the former PRR Middle Division between Lewistown and Altoona. These are pass-throughs, not scheduled stops — Union Pacific does not publish times for them.
Big Boy No. 4014 makes a brief whistle-stop in Granville Township, arriving about 12:45 p.m. and departing about 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 (subject to change with railroad operations and weather). The locomotive only pauses — there is no public boarding or site access. The viewing area is at the Roundhouse Road crossing, about 1.5 miles past the Lewistown Train Station — it is not downtown and not at the station. The Lewistown Train Station is closed to the public for construction; only those with a valid Amtrak ticket may enter the immediate station area.
The easiest way in: park at the Lewistown Borough lot next to Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home (200 N. Main Street, Lewistown), then ride the FREE shuttle to the Roundhouse Road crossing viewing area. The Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau runs the shuttle continuously from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., to and from the viewing area, with an information tent at the parking lot. Limited parking and viewing are also permitted along designated portions of Roundhouse Road — do not block roadways, driveways, or access points, and respect private property and local businesses.
Helen Street is closed during the event. Roundhouse Road is closed to through traffic from the railroad crossing near Baldwin Drive to State Route 103 North, with access limited to local traffic only — use the northern Roundhouse Road entrance near the MCIDC Plaza. The Granville Township Police Department is managing traffic and expects significant congestion before and after the train's arrival; allow extra travel time, follow officer direction, and keep emergency-vehicle routes clear at all times.
This is the only whistle-stop between Lebanon and Altoona, and thousands of people are expected to travel in to see No. 4014. Arrive early, plan for temporary traffic control, and expect crowds at the viewing area.
For the safety of all attendees: remain at least 25 feet from the railroad tracks at all times; never trespass on railroad property, bridges, or rights-of-way; obey all posted signs and instructions from law enforcement; do not stop vehicles on roadways, bridges, or railroad crossings; keep children under close supervision; and stay alert for moving trains and equipment on adjacent tracks.
