Eternal Flame Falls is a distinctive natural feature inside Erie County’s Chestnut Ridge Park. The relevant access point is the Eternal Flame parking area off Route 277, not the park’s main casino address. Use the trailhead directions linked here and check the county’s live status before leaving Hamburg.

The county’s guided-hike description measures the route at 1.12 miles with about 200 feet of elevation change. Surfaces include mud, dirt, roots and water, and part of the approach runs in the creek. It is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. Allow roughly 1–1.5 hours and bring sturdy waterproof shoes and drinking water.

A July 2026 Erie County Sheriff warning followed two separate ankle-breaking falls and says the trail can challenge even experienced hikers. The falls may look like a quick roadside stop in photographs; they are not. Skip the trail in unsuitable conditions or when the group’s mobility, footwear or remaining daylight makes the descent unsafe.
