The current ride calendar identifies four operating experiences without making every artifact current: the 1926 Edwards No. 401 motor car, the restored 1910 Virginia & Truckee McKeen Motor Car No. 22, Virginia & Truckee steam locomotive No. 25 and the 1875 Glenbrook. The museum says the McKeen is the only fully restored and operable example of its type, while Glenbrook returned to operating condition in 2015. Other exhibit pieces remain separate from the ride promise: Inyo is explicitly off display for restoration, and a photograph of preserved equipment does not prove an assignment to a public trip.

The Virginia & Truckee purchased McKeen Motor Car No. 22 for additional Minden-Carson City-Reno passenger service.

Glenbrook moved to the Nevada State Railroad Museum for a long restoration process.

The museum's mission is to collect, preserve and interpret locomotives, rolling stock, documents and artifacts tied to Nevada railroading, then operate selected pieces so visitors can experience steam and early motor-car technology. Its collection connects the Comstock-era Virginia & Truckee system with logging, mining, branch-line passenger service and preservation. Glenbrook, built for the Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming Company in 1875, became Nevada's first state railroad artifact and was restored to operating condition in 2015. V&T McKeen No. 22 carried passengers between Minden, Carson City and Reno, ended regular service in 1945, and reappeared after a museum reconstruction that required replacement trucks and mechanical systems. These histories explain why a short museum loop can feature materially different equipment from one operating weekend to the next.
