The Little Yellow Train is a collection of restored maintenance-of-way equipment rather than a conventional excursion consist. Rappahannock Railroad Museum has served area families, school groups, scouts, veterans, researchers, and travelers for more than three decades. Its live operation preserves the story of the former Sylvania/FMC cellophane plant south of Fredericksburg. The ride leaves Deep Run Station, crosses industrial trackage associated with the plant, and continues on rails laid from 1927 to 1929 to receive raw materials and coal and ship finished product. Volunteers began restoring the maintenance-of-way equipment that became the Yellow Train in 2005. The museum now uses that compact work train, full-size cars, tools, artifacts, and model railroads to interpret both railroad history and the maintenance labor behind it.
