Steamtown NHS core complex, 350 Cliff St., Scranton PA 18503. Visitors queue past No. 4012 Big Boy, then past and around No. 4014 for close viewing/photos. Exact route may vary based on UP servicing needs (boiler wash). Jun 17-30: both Big Boys side-by-side on view; viewing of No. 4014 may be more distant than Jun 15-16 public display days. Park hours 09:30-17:00 EDT (reservation windows 09:00-15:00; all visitors depart by 17:00). History Museum, Technology Museum, Roundhouse, Visitor Center open. per nps.gov
Residency Jun 17-30 for UP boiler wash and servicing while No. 4014 remains on view alongside No. 4012. No. 4012 cab open for visiting Jun 17-30 (not on Jun 15-16). The UP Museum Experience Car is NOT available during the Jun 17-30 residency. UP commemorative diesel No. 1776 on view, joined by No. 1616 (honoring President Lincoln) toward the end of the visit. Yard train rides Fri-Sun: Jun 19-21 and Jun 26-28 (separate tickets via recreation.gov Short Train Ride Reservations). Longer excursions: Jun 20, 21, 27, 28 (separate Excursion Train Rides tickets). Excursion/yard-ride ticket holders do not need a separate entry ticket. Public cab tours of No. 4014 are not confirmed; only No. 4012's cab is open Jun 17-30. per recreation.gov
Advance timed-entry reservations REQUIRED via recreation.gov for all Jun 17-30 days — $1 service fee per ticket, nonrefundable. NO walk-up access; all reservations must be made online before visit. Entry up to 30 min before reservation time. Park closes 17:00 daily; all visitors must depart by 17:00. Jun 15-16 (display days, separate tickets): no general visitor parking on those days, pedestrian entry only via gates near Lackawanna Transit Center (30 Lackawanna Ave). Yard train/excursion ticket holders do not need separate entry ticket — train entry valid 1 hour before ride departure. per recreation.gov
Jun 17-30: limited NPS lot (first-come, first-served) at 350 Cliff St. park entrance. Handicap-accessible placarded parking in NPS lot — enter via 350 Cliff St., follow signage. Downtown Scranton paid garages including Steamtown Mall garage (adjacent to park). Limited metered street parking (maximum stay may be insufficient). Shuttle buses for satellite parking areas may be available — check ScrantonParking.com. COLTS and LCTA buses stop at Lackawanna Transit Center (30 Lackawanna Ave), directly adjacent to pedestrian entrance gates. per recreation.gov
'Tens of thousands' expected throughout residency per NPS/recreation.gov; 'greatly increased traffic in and around Scranton' during entire Jun 17-30 period. Significant outdoor wait expected in queue to view No. 4014 — area uncovered and exposed to weather. Visitors advised to bring weather gear and plan for delays. Steamtown Visitor Center open (restrooms, orientation). History Museum, Technology Museum, Roundhouse open for all reservation holders. Marketplace at Steamtown (food) in Steamtown Mall immediately adjacent to park. Restrooms in Visitor Center and Technology Museum. Water fountain at Track 9 locomotive shop and Technology Museum (not wheelchair accessible). Port-a-potties may be available near viewing queue (referenced in rec.gov listing for weather-exposure prep). Shade/shelter tent noted for display days queue. Drones prohibited: Steamtown NHS Superintendent's Compendium (updated 2026-04-03) prohibits launching/landing/operating UAS within NPS boundaries except with written superintendent approval. Pets: allowed only in parking lot and grassy area outside Theater Building; service animals (dogs/miniature horses) permitted throughout. Some train excursions not accessible — explain needs at Ticket Booth. Tripping hazard warning issued for yard/locomotive area (uneven surfaces, protruding parts).
