History

The Oklahoma Railway Museum is founded in 2002 as a 501(c)(3) tax‑exempt nonprofit organization in Oklahoma City. It operates as a self‑funded heritage railroad, relying on memberships, train fares, special events, donations and grants to support its restoration projects. The museum maintains its status as the state’s flagship operating heritage railroad, offering scheduled excursion trains on the first and third Saturdays of each month from April through August and a Polar Express program in November and December.

The Trains

The museum’s active roster includes four diesel locomotives plus a total of ten diesel and steam engines, among them the guest steam locomotive Sadie (sn 4139), built in 1931 by the Vulcan Iron Works in Wilkes‑Barre, Pennsylvania. Its collection also comprises ten passenger cars and a variety of maintenance‑of‑way and freight equipment drawn from numerous historic railroads. Excursion trains run on the first and third Saturdays of each month from April through August, with a Polar Express service added in November and December.
