About Oklahoma Railway Museum
Oklahoma Railway Museum is a volunteer-run outdoor museum and operating railroad on historic Missouri-Kansas-Texas track in northeast Oklahoma City. Admission to the grounds is free during the published January–October museum season, while scheduled train rides and special events are separately ticketed. Regular public trains use vintage diesel power and historic passenger equipment for an approximately 45-minute trip from Oakwood Depot. The Trains
The museum preserves diesel locomotives, passenger cars, cabooses, freight equipment, and station structures spanning multiple railroads and eras. The older official roster includes operationally classified units such as OKRX 301, OKRX 814, and OKRX 48, but a January 2026 museum publication reported locomotives 90, 301, and 4648 in the shop for paint or repair. This guide therefore promises only the museum's published vintage-diesel regular ride, not a locomotive number or consist. The collection also includes the 1905 Kansas City, Mexico & Orient Oakwood Depot, a 1920 Frisco turntable donated by BNSF, and equipment whose display or restoration status can change.
History
The Central Oklahoma Railfan Club became the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society; an older roster timeline says 1972, but the current official history page controls.
The organization began Watonga Chief dinner and passenger service, an operating precursor to the present museum.
An agreement for former MKT track in Oklahoma City advanced plans for a permanent railway museum.

The organization began as the Central Oklahoma Railfan Club and became the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society in 1970. It later operated the Watonga Chief dinner and passenger train and used 1995 Union Pacific excursions to help establish a permanent museum. A 1997 agreement with the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority provided access to former MKT track; land was purchased in 1999 and the museum opened in 2000. A 2002 connection to the live rail network allowed equipment to move from Watonga. Today the museum interprets Oklahoma railroading on roughly three miles of historic MKT track built in 1903 while continuing restoration work across its outdoor collection.
