About Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association

The Trains
Pennsylvania Railroad No. 643 is the association's signature steam locomotive; the official site commemorated its 125th birthday in June 2026, fixing its construction year at 1901. Diesel-electric No. 52 is a 65-ton center-cab locomotive built by Vulcan Iron Works in 1953 for Pennsylvania Power & Light as No. 3347. WGHSEA bought it in December 2010 and describes it as both No. 643's backup and primary passenger power on selected dates. Diesel-mechanical No. 8 was built by Whitcomb in 1953 for PP&L as E129, came to WGHSEA in the 1980s, and is now used mainly for switching and track work with limited passenger service. The official schedule does not promise a particular locomotive on every ride, and the guest Porto 172 trolley belongs to Rockhill Trolley Museum rather than WGHSEA.

WGHSEA formed during the winter of 1958–1959 to preserve steam-powered equipment and teach the history of farming. Its current area guide says the railroad has operated continuously since the association purchased the locomotive now known as No. 643—then called No. 5—in 1961. The organization broadened the showground around transportation, farming, manufacturing, museums, demonstrations, and family events while keeping the railroad event-driven. No. 52 joined the collection in 2010.
