The Trains
The museum is a static collection rather than an operating excursion consist. The Niagara Falls USA destination listing identifies two cabooses and two industrial locomotives outside, while the official visit page confirms exterior displays and the current featured exhibit covers the New York Central track relocation through the Tonawandas from 1917 to 1922. The adjacent former New York Central EL-2 switching tower is owned by the chapter according to 2026 New York State project materials. The organization began as the Buffalo Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts in 1938 and received its National Railway Historical Society charter on February 1, 1942. It changed its name to the Niagara Frontier Chapter in 1988 to reflect a wider regional mission. The brick Erie freight depot was completed in 1923 after an earlier wooden building burned in 1920. The chapter acquired the property from Conrail in 1987, restored it over many years and opened the Railroad Museum of the Niagara Frontier on June 1, 2003. The combination of surviving railroad fabric, regional collections and volunteer stewardship—not a passenger ride—is the core visitor experience.
